Using Affiliate Marketing - Marketing Blog #8

Welcome back to another marketing blog, this is the last one I will be posting as I move on to other topics. This blog will be centered around affiliate marketing, what it is and how to use it effectively.

We've all watched YouTube at some point in our lives. if you are reading this then you've probably watched gaming videos too. As content creation becomes more of a viable career path, some content creators partner up with companies to promote products and services to their audience in exchange for money, free products or commissions based on clicks or downloads. The content creator will usually do a short promotion of the company or product at the start of their videos which will highlight a unique discount code that can be used by the viewer. (Martynenko, 2019)

An example of this is when Respawn Entertainment's 'Apex Legends' quietly released on February 4th to massive success, the game didn't have any mainstream marketing whatsoever. EA and Respawn decided to take a different route, they decided to partner up with the most popular streamers on Twitch and YouTube and had them stream the game to an already massive audience that were hungry for more battle royale games. This plan worked, Apex Legends managed to take over Fortnite as the most viewed game on Twitch for a short time. (Ellis, 2019)
