Email Marketing: 2 Techniques - Marketing Blog #5
Welcome back to my marketing blog series, this is blog number 5 where we will be covering email marketing techniques.
Before we get started, I would like to announce that there is a way to keep up to date with this project. You can now receive an update via email whenever something new is going on, you can sign up here or at https://mailchi.mp/250326ec40da/cmitchgames.
When email marketing is mentioned, it sounds rather outdated, but that is far from the case. There are a multitude of ways that companies use email marketing techniques to attract and maintain the interest of the consumer. However, I will just be discussing 2 today.
The first email marketing technique involves sending out newsletters to customers who have signed up to receive them, these are usually used for announcements or to highlight game updates. A newsletter will benefit me and my game in a multitude of ways, these can include:
Keeping users interested in the development the game.
Increasing traffic on my website as the newsletter will contain a link to it.
Bringing more followers to my social media platforms.
Creating a newsletter is easy and relatively cheap, a quick Google search is all it takes. There are websites such as MailChimp that allow users to create a professional but basic newsletter for free, with more advanced features locked behind a monthly subscription. (New, 2018)
The second email marketing technique I could use is called cold or prospect emailing, this is when you email someone who could be interested in your game. Due to laws in various countries, it is illegal to email an account that can be traced back to an individual. Cold emailing a publisher or a news site that use a generic email address such as 'info@gamesthing.com' is usually fine as long as the content in the email is relevant. (Hasley, 2018)
