Social Media Marketing: 3 Techniques - Marketing Blog #7
Welcome back to another marketing blog post, this time I will be covering 3 techniques related to social media marketing.
For better or worse, social media is a huge part of our lives. Any game that is successful has some sort of social media presence, usually on YouTube and Twitch where hundreds of thousands of people tune in to watch their favourite content creators.
Using hashtags and tags will be the first technique I will be using, I've already started in fact. My preferred social media app is Twitter, every time I tweet about my game on there, I always make sure to accompany it with relevant hashtags such as #IndieDev and #GameDev. There are accounts dedicated to retweeting anything with those hashtags in them and some of them have thousands of followers, this helps me reach other users easier without needing to spend any money. The second technique I will be using is called 'social media engagement', this technique helps build brand loyalty and is great for gathering consumer feedback. The best way to practice this is to reply to as many posts or tweets as you possibly can, as long as they are relevant of course. Another good tip is to remain consistent and positive, don't post funny stuff and have a joke with your followers one day, then be dry and serious the day after. Doing this will irritate consumers and make them feel as if you are just a brand saying what they want to hear, being genuine and polite is the best way way to keep everyone happy. (Eckstein, 2018)
The final technique for today is called 'viral marketing', this is when a post or tweet gets serious traction and is seen by thousands of people. It's something everyone wants. yet not many achieve. Videos seem to be the more likely pieces of content to end up going viral, whether they are funny, sad or just weird, they usually aim to attain a strong reaction from the viewer. Another way to try and get your content viral is to reach out to influencers that can promote you and your product, these are usually YouTubers, Twitch streamers and journalists. (Acidre, n.d.)
